Tottenham Boss Thomas Frank Labels Vicario Booers 'Not True Real Supporters'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Spurs and Raise Pressure on Frank

Tottenham Hotspur fans who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told later "they can't be true Tottenham supporters" by manager Thomas Frank.

Tottenham conceded a pair of scores in the first six minutes to fall 2-1 to their opponents, registering their 10th Premier League home defeat of 2025.

However the primary talking point was the visitors' next score when Vicario gave away possession well beyond his area.

He came out to deal with a long ball and carried the ball near the sideline.

But, rather than booting it into touch, the Italy international spun and tried to clear away, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

The forward passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who curled a shot into the net from the sideline recorded at thirty-six point six yards.

Seconds later when the ball went to Vicario once more, a number of Spurs supporters jeered him.

Spurs were booed off at the interval, with the side 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.

A particular of those booing episodes truly angered the manager.

"It came to my attention some of our fans apparently jeered the situation and booed after, which, in my view is completely unacceptable," the Danish manager stated regarding the supporters' reaction to his shot-stopper.

"[They] cannot be true Tottenham supporters that do that. Fair enough jeering after the game, no problem, but when we are in play, we are backing one another, we are behind one another moving ahead."

Tete had handed Fulham a fourth-minute lead before Harry Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Spurs in an improved second period performance.

Former Premier League keeper Hart remarked that the next goal was "completely avoidable".

"I do appreciate the fans' frustration," the ex-keeper added. "I know the part the keeper is performing. He is a great team player, he is a real leader in the locker room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your actions.

"The keeper was heavily involved in what turned out to be the decisive goal."

'It is In the Game, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Game

Italian international the keeper is in his 3rd season with Spurs.

The 29-year-old said following the match that he had to take the criticism.

"That score was a mistake of my own, I accept accountability for it," he said.

"The intent was to clear the ball far and I just struck the ball in a poor way. It was an more difficult challenge to overcome."

He stated being booed "comes with the game".

"I am mature, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team cannot be affected by the situation in the stands. Supporters have the right to do what they think.

"It's on the team to remain more composed, to focus on ourselves. We are missing in composure and calmness to overturn results. This match is a bad loss and it is tough to take."

'It Shocked Me Nobody Returned to the Goal Line'

Despite the keeper's mistake, it was far from an simple goal for Wilson to score.

Actually it was the next most distant Premier League score of the season – after Tyler Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which incidentally too occurred on Saturday.

Wilson said he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an open goal to target.

10 moments passed between the keeper exiting of his box and the midfielder shooting – which was 5 seconds after the kick.

"It seemed to me like the keeper was out of the box for a long time," he remarked.

"I was surprised none of the back four went back to the line. When none of them defended the net, my interest lit up somewhat.

"[Destiny] Udogie fell too, which allowed me a little extra time. Then it was solely about trying to achieve the right connection and place it on target. I felt a positive feeling, as soon as it left my boot, that it was on the right line."

'During in a Bad Spell, All Seems to Work Against You'

Jeering Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unacceptable - Frank

Although Vicario's error led coverage, this was an all-round poor day for Spurs to continue their home ground struggles.

This was their 10th at home defeat of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared team statistic along with 1994 and 2003.

They still have home fixtures against the manager's former club Brentford and champions Liverpool to come before the close of the year.

Just a single of those wins have occurred after the manager replaced his predecessor in the off-season.

"If you are behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a mountain to overcome," said Frank.

"When you're in a poor run, all aspects seems to work against you as well – the opening was a redirected attempt, the next is a mistake from the keeper.

"This result puts us in a place where we have suffered an additional match. Every game has a single narrative, this game we were defeated in the early stages.

"We just need to continue striving. The later period was significantly improved and with luck an aspect we can use to learn."

Spurs have been defeated in four straight home London derbies for the first time in the top division.

Furthermore they are recording nine point five attempts and three point two efforts on goal per match in the Premier League – their lowest averages on record in a one season (dating back to 2003-04).

Ex- Cottagers midfield player Murphy stated that the manager has to ride the storm.

"He must take the criticism," Murphy said. "He has accepted a high profile role at a huge team with enormous expectation. There is pressure and duty that comes with that.

"Their showings at home have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
