The network's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often characterized by bleakness, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who found the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about observing this charming family navigate their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its current layer of irony. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to bask in the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
