American Online Influencer Penalized Following Mass Electric Bike Gathering on Iconic Australian Bridge

NSW authorities have levied a penalty against an US-based online influencer and handed out two driving violation citations for reported negligent driving after a large group of e-bike riders converged on the Sydney Harbour Bridge during the busy commute on Tuesday.

The Incident: An Illegal Gathering

A group of approximately 40 people operating electric bikes and motorbikes proceeded along the bridge’s main deck, where cycling is prohibited. The assembly then turned around and traveled through the downtown area and a nearby district.

"There was a risk of serious injury or fatalities," remarked a senior police official the officer on the following day.

Law enforcement indicated they did not immediately pursue the group out of safety concerns but instead located the assembly at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair near the city gardens, where they dispersed.

Fines Imposed for Content Creator

Later in the week, authorities announced they had issued the American online personality who goes by the influencer, twenty-six, with two traffic infringement notices for negligent driving (with no death or previous bodily harm), carrying a fine of $562 and penalty points each, in relation to the bridge ride-out. Officials noted that inquiries were continuing.

The personality reportedly has more than 3.4m subscribers on one platform and more than 1.2 million on Instagram.

Creator's Response

The content creator spoke with a local publication this week following the event spread rapidly on digital platforms, saying he regretted giving "the biking community" a bad reputation.

"I accept the blame. It was among the safest ride-outs I have witnessed," he said. "I’m coming here as a guest, so I’m going to come here respecting the laws and norms of Sydney. So when I decided to do a meet and greet it was not meant to include a ride-out, it was just to greet people under the bridge."

"I’m unfamiliar with the city, I am to blame we ended up on the bridge and I had a decision to make: whether the group completes the entirety of the bridge and comes back, which is a crime. Or we turn around, essentially, before entering the bridge. And I made the decision at the time to turn around."

National Debate on E-Bike Regulation

The spate of e-bikes on streets across the country has sparked increasing demands for stricter rules. The federal health minister, the minister, recently said that non-compliant electric bikes were a "complete hazard on the road."

"Young people have engaged in reckless acts on bikes ever since the penny-farthing [but] the harm that are presenting at our hospital emergency departments are truly severe," he stated. "We must make sure we prevent these things entering the country [and] police are given the powers to take strong action, to confiscate them, to crush them, to dispose of them."

The state recorded 226 injuries associated with ebikes in 2024. However, in the first seven months of the following year, that figure jumped to two hundred thirty-three injuries plus four deaths.
